Commutator Picture

Commutator is an important part of armature of DC motor and AC motor. A number of copper sheets separated by mica sheets form a cylinder or disc, each of which is connected to certain armature winding elements. The commutator acts as a rectifier, and its function is to make the current direction in the armature winding alternating to ensure that the direction of electromagnetic torque is always unchanged. As the armature rotates, the copper piece comes into contact with the fixed brush. In a DC motor, the alternating current in the ARmature winding is changed into the direct current between the brushes by means of a brush and a commutator. In the AC commutator motor, the frequency of alternating current between brushes meets the working requirements.
